Cincinnati Bearcats sophomore forward Jarrett Hensley is set to compete for USA East Coast in a commemorative series starting next week in New York and Barcelona. After beginning his career at UNC Greensboro, Hensley followed head coach Wes Miller to Cincinnati and appeared in all 33 games off the bench last season.

Hensley is hoping to take on a larger role with the Bearcats this coming season and should continue to progress playing against a mixture of college and professional athletes. He averaged 7.6 minutes, 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 39.5% from the field in 33 appearances a year ago.

“Coach Miller brought it up to me about an opportunity to play in Spain and I was really interested. I knew immediately it would be a good opportunity to play against grown men and meet new people as well,” Hensley explained via Cincinnati Athletics. “I was really excited. Shoutout to him for that.”

The lefty forward later discussed his upcoming trip per Cincinnati Athletics: “My parents were happy for me. I think they were just excited for the opportunity I got. It’s weird to think you’ll be wearing that USA across your chest but I’m excited. I think for me, it’s to keep building that confidence for the beginning of the year and build off that.”

Following two days of training in New York City, the team will travel to Barcelona and face players from Spain’s Liga ACB in a series of exhibition games on August 5-7. USA East Coast is led by Utah Jazz assistant coach Alex Jensen and includes Duke guard Jaylen Blakes, Purdue guard Brandon Newman, Syracuse forward Benny Williams and others.
