Cincinnati Football: Ben Bryant and Evan Prater talk quarterback competition

The Bearcats quarterback battle continues to be a subject of discussion as the season opener against Arkansas is quickly approaching. Even though Ben Bryant and Evan Prater are competing for the same spot, the quarterbacks seem to have a great relationship and are willing to learn from each other.

During fall training camp, Bryant and Prater are opponents at practice but remain roommates and friends off the field. I think that unique connection creates an intriguing competition as the coaching staff faces a difficult decision. Both quarterbacks are expected to appear in the opener but only one will have a chance to set the tone.
Bryant recently discussed his thoughts on the upcoming decision via Cincinnati Athletics: “It’s really important because the quarterback is seen as a leader of the team. The way we handle this battle will shape the way the season goes. The program has taken a huge step every year and we just want to keep that trajectory.”

"Prater later explained his relationship with Bryant per Cincinnati Athletics: “We want the best for each other. Either way it goes, we’re going to root on whoever they decide, so just be there and try to help each other out if you have questions. That’s just what we try to do throughout camp and all season.”"
Desmond Ridder was arguably the biggest driving force in the Bearcats’ historic rise over the last five years so there is going to be an adjustment period but the program can’t afford to start slow in Fayetteville. Just like their predecessor, Bryant and Prater will have to stay patient and under control in the hostile environment.
"According to Cincinnati Athletics, Prater detailed what he learned from Ridder: “That leadership is what took Des to the next level throughout his career at UC. Just being a very vocal guy, he wasn’t afraid to speak up, no matter what the situation was. Being able to learn from him was definitely a great experience.”"
