Luke Fickell spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon prior to the season opener against Arkansas. As Cincinnati continues to prepare for the road trip, Fickell talked about the quarterback battle, facing a difficult atmosphere and more.

There are plenty of storylines to keep an eye on as Cincinnati attempts to upset Arkansas. Even though the quarterback competition has received more than enough coverage during the offseason, it had to be asked in the midweek press conference.

Fickell offered his thoughts on the highly disputed decision via Cincinnati Athletics.

"“I think it was important for us to make sure we’re getting those guys the reps they need, especially going into Week 1. Any time you have new quarterbacks in particular, you have to have a plan for all of them because they are a little bit different.”"

Ben Bryant is expected to start under center but Evan Prater should see the field as well. Both quarterbacks are capable options but the wrong decision could result in a season-opening loss as the Razorbacks are equipped with high level defenders.

In addition to having a talented roster, Arkansas will have a significant home field advantage at Razorback Stadium. The Bearcats have tried to create a distracting environment throughout fall camp but it’s difficult to replicate that level of disruption.

During media availability, Fickell talked about the atmosphere per Cincinnati Athletics.

"“We started really talking about the atmosphere and environment last week. I know it’s going to be a loud and hostile environment. It’s one that you want your guys to be able to play and enjoy because this is what college football is all about.”"

The Bearcats are underdogs heading into Fayetteville but there’s always a chance for an upset with such an experienced and skilled roster. In order to take down Arkansas, all three units must remain concentrated and patient throughout the game.

Fickell also revealed which running back will start per Cincinnati Athletics.

"“I think Ryan Montgomery, being a senior, will be the guy that starts off and takes that first rep in there. A lot of guys deserve an opportunity but it’s going to be by committee. We’re in a good place and our guys just have to stay focused.”"
