With the home opener just a couple hours away, the Bearcats are ready to take on Kennesaw State. Here are a few last-minute predictions and thoughts for this afternoon, including Ben Bryant and a strong defensive performance leading the way to a win.

Despite losing to the Razorbacks, Luke Fickell’s team showed a lot of fight and should be well prepared for Kennesaw State’s attack. Fickell explained what it’s like to defend a triple option via Cincinnati Athletics.

"“It’s not just a challenge for the defense but the offense too because you have to play so complimentary. They limit the possessions that you get so you have to make sure you’re taking advantage of those opportunities.”"

Offensively, the Bearcats will look to avoid a slow start and keep the momentum going from the second half against Arkansas. In order to blowout Kennesaw State like anticipated, Bryant must find the balance between aggressiveness and patience.

The Bearcats return to Nippert Stadium for the first time since December with an opportunity to extend its 27-game home win streak against Kennesaw State. Fickell described what it’s like to be back in front of the home crowd via Cincinnati Athletics.

"“Obviously we’re excited to be back home more than anything. It’s tough starting on the road but to be back at Nippert Stadium with the student section, city and community is something that’s really exciting for us. First game back at home is something we’ve been waiting for. Last week obviously was a tough loss. We didn’t play well enough to win.”"

Bryant should be able to move the ball consistently but Corey Kiner and Charles McClelland will play an important role in the backfield as well. Given the obvious talent gap between the teams, Cincinnati is expected to cruise to a blowout over the Owls.

I’m predicting the Bearcats will score early and build a double digit lead by halftime before pulling away to cover the spread. If Bryant plays with confidence and the defense stays disciplined then Cincinnati should be able to handle the Owls with relative ease.
