After taking down Kennesaw State last night in the home opener, Luke Fickell and the Bearcats broke down the offensive and defensive performances, extending the home win streak and more in the postgame press conference per Cincinnati Athletics.

Ben Bryant led the way offensively with another solid showing under center, helping the team build a commanding lead by halftime. Fickell discussed what the senior quarterback showed on Saturday.

"“We’re really happy to see his confidence level. We had an idea we were going to throw it a little bit. The best thing that he did and we did all day was take what was there. Some times you get antsy and want to take a shot down the field but accuracy and ability to move the chains is where we have to continue to focus.”"

In addition to a promising performance from Bryant, the skill position players showed off their potential. All three running backs found the end zone and five different receivers caught multiple receptions in the win including Tyler Scott and Jadon Thompson.

The Bearcats have so many talented players and both quarterbacks did a great job of distributing the ball in open space with an opportunity to make plays. During the press conference, Bryant explained how the offense executed and continued to progress.

"“It felt good getting the ball to our playmakers and letting them go to work. We have so many guys that can makes plays and get open and they did a really good job of that. It’s just about getting the ball to them. There’s still so much more we can get better at like penalties. We just have to keep getting better.”"

The defense was focused from the first possession and turned it up a notch early in the second half with two turnovers returned for touchdowns. Right after halftime, Jabari Taylor recovered a fumble and took it to the house, followed by a Ja’Von Hicks pick-six.

The Bearcats outscored Kennesaw State 21-0 in the third quarter before cruising to a 63-10 win. Jowon Briggs laughed and said the defense deserved a pat on the back after playing so well in the win.

"“When you play a triple option team, there’s a focus and emphasis on the fundamentals. I think it tied together and showed how we finished the game. I think our focus showed itself out there. It feels great. For them to challenge the middle and for us to respond well, it’s a little pat on the back.”"

Cincinnati will be back on the field next week against in-state rival Miami (OH) with a chance to win a 16th straight game over the RedHawks. The matchup is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 17.
