With just a few days until conference play kicks off, the Bearcats are preparing to take on Tulsa on Saturday night. Luke Fickell, Tyler Scott and Wil Huber discussed the upcoming matchup this week during a press conference per Cincinnati Athletics.
It’s going to be difficult to contain Tulsa’s offensive attack but the Bearcats will be able to rely on a talented secondary that continues to improve and an experienced group of pass rushers that have played in this environment before.
Cincinnati is hoping to win a third straight conference championship and that journey officially starts this week. In the midweek press conference, Fickell talked about facing Tulsa in recent years and beginning conference play via Cincinnati Athletics.
"“As a whole, offense, defense and special teams, there’s a lot of really good things that will take us as we continue to push and start league play. Now it’s about moving onto league play. We haven’t been on the road since Arkansas. If you want to play for a championship, you have to not only win your league but win on the road. We have a great challenge in front of us. Tulsa has given us the best games over the past 3-4 years so we know it’s going to be a hard fought battle in a night game on the road.”"

Prior to becoming conference opponents nearly a decade ago, the Bearcats had a 13-16-2 record against Tulsa including a four-game win streak from 1993-1997 before going 18 years without a matchup between the two programs.
In addition to playing disciplined on defense, Luke Fickell’s team has to move the ball consistently. After scoring 28 points in the second quarter against Indiana, the Bearcats offense shut down in the second half and that can’t happen again at Tulsa.
Scott was a huge part of the dominant first half last week with three touchdowns en route to earning conference offensive player of the week. The junior receiver recently explained his mindset leading up to kick off at Tulsa per Cincinnati Athletics.
"“Tulsa has kind of been one of the toughest matchups these past couple years. At the end of the day, coach Fickell always talks about finding a way to win and that’s what the great teams do. They’re a good team coming in. Each week is different as far as a game plan. Preparation is the biggest thing for me. Just making sure I’m doing the little things. Not too worried about what other teams are going to do with me. Just being ready when opportunities come my way.”"
