After suffering injuries in the recent win over South Florida, Ben Bryant and Tyler Scott are hoping to return at SMU this week. Luke Fickell updated the status of both starters and several others as the Bearcats get ready for a difficult test in Dallas.

During the second half against South Florida, Bryant was hit in the head while attempting to slide and suffered a head injury. The senior quarterback has been in concussion protocol for much of the last two weeks but could be cleared to play on Saturday.

Scott went down with an ankle injury in the first half and is questionable to play this week too. The junior wide receiver has a team-high 500 yards and should be able to go against SMU but it seems like the ankle injury will be a major factor in his productivity.

Sophomore running back Corey Kiner is expected to take the field on Saturday after sitting out the most recent game with a minor hand injury. In his absence, Charles McClelland stepped up with a career-high but it’s a relief to have the running back room intact.

A few others including wide receiver Will Pauling and tight end Chamon Metayer are questionable to play against the Mustangs. During a press conference on Tuesday, Fickell discussed the latest injury news for Bryant, Kiner and Scott per Cincinnati Athletics.

"“Ben has been able to get back from some of the concussion protocol but we don’t hit the quarterback anyways so there’s uniqueness there. Tyler is a guy that we’re hoping will continue to get better this week and will be able to play. You want those guys to be at their best in order to play. We have more depth so you’re not going to put a guy out there that isn’t able to play and perform at the best of his ability. We’ll see as we continue to push along but we don’t have anything as of yet. Corey should be fine. It wasn’t anything major. We just held him out for that week but he’s been in practice and hopefully won’t have setbacks.”"
