The Bearcats women’s basketball team fell short in the regular season opener at Louisville but Braylyn Milton scored a career-high 28 points. Milton helped make a push in the third quarter before eventually suffering an 87-68 loss against the ACC opponent.

Hailey Van Lith led the way for the Cardinals with a team-high 28 points and two rebounds on 12/20 shooting from the field. Milton was just as good for the Bearcats, finishing with a career-high 28 points and three boards on 5/5 shooting from downtown.

Louisville jumped out to a 24-10 lead after the first quarter as the Bearcats couldn’t find a rhythm on offense. After trailing by 20 points, Cincinnati went on a run to cut into the deficit but Louisville quickly responded to create separation again.

Jillian Hayes came into the season opener with high expectations but failed to play to her potential on Monday night. The junior forward went 0/9 from the field with three points, three rebounds and one steal before fouling out in only 19 minutes of action.

In her team debut after transferring from Seton Hall during the offseason, Mya Jackson totaled 12 points and four assists but had eight turnovers in the loss. Freshman guard A’riel Jackson scored 12 points, four rebounds and three assists with seven turnovers.

The Bearcats will look to bounce back in the home opener on Thursday night against Tennessee Tech before hosting Radford and Toledo over next week. Despite struggling at Louisville, Cincinnati should be able to get in the win column at Fifth Third Arena.
