In the aftermath of head coach Scott Satterfield’s hiring, several players announced they will enter the transfer portal including All-AAC center Jake Renfro, cornerback Ja’Quan Sheppard and others.
Cincinnati Bearcats cornerback JQ Hardaway and wide receiver Jojo Bermudez announced their decision after their freshman season, while Renfro and Sheppard entered the portal this week.
Renfro suffered a season-ending knee injury last summer but will have two years of eligibility left. The junior center received All-AAC First Team honors in 2021 before missing this entire season.
Sheppard started at cornerback for the Bearcats and was named to the All-AAC First Team last week after totaling 50 tackles, 10 pass deflections and one sack during his senior campaign.

Cincinnati Football: Multiple players announce decision to enter transfer portal
Bearcats wide receiver duo Nick Mardner and Jadon Thompson are going to transfer as well after combining for 611 receiving yards, 46 catches and four touchdowns in 12 games this year.
After spending one season at Cincinnati, senior edge rusher Noah Potter entered the portal on Wednesday. The former Ohio State defensive lineman had 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks this year.
All-AAC Second Team kicker Ryan Coe announced his decision to enter the portal following one year with the Bearcats. Coe was 14/14 on extra point attempts and 19/23 on field goals.

Cincinnati redshirt linebacker Leroy Bowers revealed his intention to transfer on Wednesday after appearing in two games this season. Bowers attended Princeton High School in Cincinnati.
Following the announcement that Satterfield wanted the job, several players reacted on social media including all-conference kicker Mason Fletcher and sophomore defensive lineman Justin Wodtly.
