The Bearcats are going to be without a handful of starters in the Fenway Bowl including the top six leading receivers after All-AAC wide receiver Tyler Scott declared for the NFL draft today.
Scott joined Bearcats senior receiver Tre Tucker and senior tight ends Josh Whyle and Leonard Taylor to opt out of the Fenway Bowl against Louisville on Saturday and prepare for the draft.
Nick Mardner and Jadon Thompson will transfer and won’t play either so it’s important for others to step up like receivers Will Pauling, Chris Scott, and Blue Smith, plus tight end Chamon Metayer.
The defense will be without two All-AAC First Team players as defensive tackle Dontay Corleone underwent surgery and defensive back Ja’Quan Sheppard recently transferred to Maryland.
Cincinnati Football: Tyler Scott among Bearcats to declare for draft, skip Fenway Bowl
Corleone is one of the best players on the team but his absence shouldn’t have much of an effect since veterans Jowon Briggs and Jabari Taylor will play and have led a dominant defense for years.
Even though the roster is currently in flux, the players that will take the field on Saturday morning seem positive and ready to take advantage of the upcoming opportunity in the Fenway Bowl.
It’s been quite a whirlwind for the Bearcats program the last couple weeks but things have settled down as bowl preparation continues this week led by interim head coach Kerry Coombs.
