After the Fenway Bowl loss last week, a handful of Bearcats decided to forego their remaining eligibility and declare for the draft including senior defensive backs Arquon Bush and Ja’Von Hicks.

Cincinnati sixth-year linebacker Wilson Huber, senior running back Charles McClelland and senior offensive tackle James Tunstall said they will enter the 2023 NFL Draft this week as well.

Four other players declared for the draft leading up to the bowl game as tight ends Leonard Taylor and Josh Whyle, plus wide receivers Tyler Scott and Tre Tucker announced they will move on.

Stay up to date with the latest news as the Bearcats await decisions from a few more starters, most notably All-American linebacker Ivan Pace Jr and senior running back Ryan Montgomery.

Hicks became an integral part of the Bearcats defense in recent years after breaking onto the scene as a freshman in 2018 and developing into an All-AAC performer this season.

The Cincinnati native was thrust into a starting role as a sophomore before taking over as a full time starter last year. Hicks finished his career with 197 tackles and 10 interceptions.

Even though it was in a losing effort, the senior safety totaled seven tackles and one interception in the Fenway Bowl last week. Hicks broke down his decision to declare for the draft via Twitter.

"“Being a student athlete at the University of Cincinnati has been the greatest experience of my life. It has helped me develop as a football player, earn a degree and more importantly, made me a better man. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this amazing university. Thank you for the cheers, support and memories over the past five years. The feeling of running out of that tunnel into Nippert Stadium has given me the most unforgettable moments. I will continue to carry the love and support as I embark on my new journey. I am excited for the next chapter in my life and you guys will be truly missed. With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft.”"
