According to a recent announcement, the Bearcats athletics department will break ground on a brand new $134 million indoor practice facility and performance center this month!

Cincinnati is scheduled to host an on-campus ceremony to unveil the upcoming project on May 23. The board of trustees approved funding at a maximum of $134 million.

In addition to the climate-controlled practice facility being completed prior to the start of next season, the performance center will reportedly be finished the following year.

The new-look performance center consists of athletic and weight training rooms, dining areas, football offices, mental health services, performance nutrition stations and more!

Most of the funding for the facilities upgrade came from the largest single contribution in Bearcats athletics history, a gift from prominent boosters Larry and Rhonda Sheakley.

Sheakley is the owner and CEO of the Sheakley Group, a human resources and risk management service company. The Sheakley Athletics Center was also built last decade.

University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics John Cunningham discussed the practice facility and performance center upgrades in a recent press release via Bearcats Athletics.

"“These new facilities are essential for us to compete for championships in the Big 12 and immediately help us level the playing field as we enter our new conference. I want to thank President Pinto, our Board of Trustees and, of course, our generous donors, led by Larry and Rhonda Sheakley, for leading this project as we all work together to provide our student-athletes with the resources needed to have the best experiences on and off the field. The start of this project and the success of the Day One Campaign are crucial to our future success. May 23 will be an exciting day.”"
