After suffering a surprising three-game losing skid, the Cincinnati Bearcats were placed in the middle of the pack in On3’s latest Big 12 power rankings!

Cincinnati began the regular season with high hopes but a string of unexpected setbacks left the coaching staff searching for some answers moving forward.

Prior to their annual rivalry game this weekend, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners were put atop the recent power rankings according to On3.

With an upcoming matchup against the Iowa State Cyclones next week, the bye comes at a pivotal time during Scott Satterfield’s first season as head coach.

Cincinnati Football: Bearcats placed in the middle of pack in latest Big 12 power rankings

  1. Texas (5-0, 2-0)
  2. Oklahoma (5-0, 2-0)
  3. Kansas State (3-1, 1-0)
  4. BYU (4-1, 1-1)
  5. Kansas (4-1, 1-1)
  6. West Virginia (4-1, 2-0)
  7. TCU (3-2, 1-1)
  8. Cincinnati (2-3, 0-2)
  9. UCF (3-2, 0-2)
  10. Texas Tech (2-3, 1-1)
  11. Iowa State (2-3, 1-1)
  12. Oklahoma State (2-2, 0-1)
  13. Baylor (2-3, 1-1)
  14. Houston (2-3, 0-2)

Cincinnati had plenty of opportunities to stay within striking distance in the second half but self-inflicted lapses contributed to a recent loss against BYU.

Despite compiling more first downs and total yards, the Bearcats committed too many critical mistakes and unforced errors in the sloppy performance.

The frustrating outing marks the first three-game losing streak for Cincinnati since Luke Fickell was in the midst of his first season as head coach in 2017.

Cincinnati Football: Bearcats enter bye week with plenty of questions as Big 12 play ramps up

A week off serves as a chance for the Bearcats staff to analyze their performances and make necessary adjustments ahead of the homecoming matchup.

Satterfield’s program is still searching for the first ever Big 12 victory in school history after beginning conference play with a disappointing 0-2 record.

The Bearcats will try to regroup in the coming days before eventually returning to action against Iowa State on Saturday, October 14 at Nippert Stadium.

With a renewed sense of motivation and purpose, Cincinnati will attempt to put an end to the losing streak and get back in the winning column soon!
