The Cincinnati Bearcats announced a home-and-home series with the Michigan State Spartans in college football for the 2030 and 2031 seasons. The series includes a game on Sept 14th, 2030 at Nippert Stadium and in 2031 at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan.

The Bearcats and Spartans have faced off twice in program history, splitting the games 1-1. The first matchup came in 1930, a 32-0 Michigan State victory in East Lansing, before Cincinnati tied the series in 1946, winning 18-7 again in East Lansing.

It has been 84 years since the two teams played, and a lot has happened. Both teams have 1 college football playoff appearance, both coming in the 4-team format when it was more difficult to make it. The Spartans made it in 2015, and the Bearcats in 2021, when they became the first non-power 5 team to make it prior to Cincinnati joining the Big 12. En route to their college football playoff berths, both teams have some of the most memorable upsets in recent history: Cincinnati defeating Notre Dame in South Bend, Michigan State beating a Jabrill Peppers-led Michigan, and an Ezekiel Elliott-led Ohio State Team. The Spartan team that made the playoffs in 2015 was coached by Mark Dantonio, who was previously at Cincinnati from 2004 to 2006, stabilizing the program when they first joined the Big East. In his three seasons at Cincinnati, Dantonio went 19-17 before leaving to be the Spartans' head coach, where he stayed from 2007 to 2019 before stepping down in February of 2020. The Spartans haven't been the same since his departure.
