The Cincinnati Bearcats' season ended Sunday afternoon after an 8-6 loss to Louisiana, sending them home after just three games in the regional round, the same as last season. The Bearcats have improved every season under Jordan Bischel, from 2024 being the first team out of the tournament, to 2025 being the No. 3 team in the Knoxville regional, to this year being the No. 2 team in the Starkville Regional this year.
Following the regional round loss, Keegan Nickson of Bearcat Journal talked to Bischel on the possibility of players returning and leaving, specifically Quenton Coats, Derek Pitts, and Enzo Infelise.
"I believe those guys, we want what's best for those guys. That's what I'll say. I want Derek and Quinton and Enzo and every guy in our program to be wherever they're going to be happiest. I believe they think that is Cincinnati, and I don't think dollar signs are going to change that for them."
"If there is a place where they can be happier, I will help them get into the portal and get to those places. I think they know that. I think they know how special our program is, and I think those guys will be wearing Cincinnati uniforms next year."
Coats, Pitts, and Infelise all had their moments during the regional round, some more than others. Infelise, a freshman, totaled 4 RBI's across three games and was also the last out with two base runners on in their most recent game against Louisiana. Pitts is regarded as one of the best defensive outfielders, making an incredible throw in the First Louisiana game to get a runner out who attempted to turn to second base. Coats struggled during the regional round despite being one of the best batters nationally across Cincinnati's 57 regular-season games.
I asked Jordan Bischel what his confidence level was in being able to retain his core for next season (Coats, Pitts, Infelise):
