The Cincinnati Bearcats recently announced they are taking a trip in early August to Nassau, Bahamas, for the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League, an annual foreign tour event organized by BDG Sports at the Baha Mar Resort and Casino. Now that some time has passed since the announcement, more details are available for a better description of what the Cincinnati Bearcats will be participating in.
The NCAA allows teams to take a foreign trip every summer, compared to when the rule was one foreign trip every 4 years until 2024. Current rules also now allow the team's trip to last up to 10 days, play 4 exhibition games, and hold 10 extra practices before leaving on the trip.
The Bearcats' trip is scheduled to be only 6 days long, and they are scheduled to play two exhibition games. Cincinnati will arrive in Nassau on August 1st, before they play the University of Calgary on August 2nd at 2:00. They then play the University of Victoria on August 4th at 2:30, before departing Nassau on August 6th.
With Jerrod Calhoun going into his first season, going on a foreign tour allows him to hold up to 10 additional practices going into an important season. It also helps the Bearcats' roster of 1 returning player able to build chemistry and build relationships before the start of the season.
There are several other Power 4 programs participating in the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League, such as Texas A&M, Louisville, South Carolina, and Arkansas. None of these teams are scheduled to play one another, as many foreign programs are also involved in the event. The Bahamas National Team, Carleton University, Dalhousie University, and Toros del Valle are all scheduled to be taking on the other programs.
