This is the third post in a twelve-post series that gives a preseason analysis of what to expect from every opponent the Cincinnati Bearcats take on this upcoming college football season. We last looked at the Bearcats ' Week 2 matchup against the Western Carolina Catamounts out of the Southern Conference.
The Bearcats play their first two games at home to open the season, and much won't change ahead of their week three opponent, Miami OH. The Bearcats and Redhawks will be playing the 129th edition of The Battle for the Victory Bell, a rivalry that dates back to December of 1888, the oldest non-conference rivalry in all of college football. The game will be taking place at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, the home of FC Cincinnati, an MLS team. TQL Stadium is approximately 50 minutes away from Oxford, OH, making the game a true neutral site.
Last season, the Redhawks finished 7-7 with a 6-2 record in the Mid-American Conference, finishing second. Miami would end up losing to Western Michigan in the MAC Championship 23-13.
Miami lost a lot of players from last year's team; 15 players exited in the transfer portal, but they added 16 from the portal themselves, along with another 18 coming in for their high school class. Some of their biggest additions are Devontae Armstrong, an interior offensive lineman from Ohio State; Dillon Tatum, a defensive back from Michigan State; Ben Minich, a safety from Notre Dame; Cade Yacamelli, a running back from Wisconsin; and Devin Hyatt, a receiver from Ohio State and the younger brother of New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who won the Biletnikoff in 2022 at Tennessee.
Miami brought in the No.1 MAC transfer class behind first-year member Sacramento State. The Redhawks brought in 15 3-star transfers, which isn't that bad considering Cincinnati brought in 20 3-star transfers.
Head Coach Scott Satterfield has a 1-1 record against Miami, losing his opening game against the Redhawks in Oxford by a final score of 31-24 in Overtime. Cincinnati is expected to be a heavy favorite, but with Miami's impressive transfer class and this game being at a neutral site, who knows what could happen. Miami head coach Chuck Martin is going to have his team ready, will Satterfield have his?
