Keyshuan Tillery, a freshman guard for the Cincinnati Bearcats this past season, announced he has committed to play for the Charlotte 49ers next college basketball season. Tillery will be joining former Cincinnati Head Coach Wes Miller in Charlotte, along with former guard Jizzle James.
Tillery's commitment to Charlotte was a shock to many; the former top-60 recruit from Albany, New York, chose the 49ers over a return to Cincinnati, St. John's, Maryland, Minnesota and other high major programs.
Tillery averaged 3.8 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 12.4 minutes a game over 31 games this season, shooting 37% from the field and 33% from the three-point range. Tillery had a couple of good outings this season, including a season-high 14 points on the road against No. 10 Houston. In the final game of the season against UCF in the Big 12 Championship, he posted 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist on 3 of 6 shooting from the field, two of those makes being from behind the arc.
With Charlotte adding two players who turned down Power 5 interest, they should be in contention next season in the American Conference, which Wes Miller has experience coaching in, going 18-18 in American Conference games in his first two seasons before the Bearcats made the transition over to the Big 12. It is nice to see, however, in the ever-changing landscape of college basketball, two players who could've gotten more money elsewhere choose to be loyal and choose what probably is a better situation for their careers.
Cincinnati transfer Keyshaun Tillery is receiving interest from these schools, he told @LeagueRDY:
