Former Cincinnati Bearcats infielder Kerrington Cross, who was drafted by the Padres almost a year ago, last July, was announced to be promoted from the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League to the High-A Fort Wayne TinCaps of the Midwest League. The Dayton Dragons also play in the Midwest League, which is not to far from Cincinnati.
In his five seasons at Cincinnati, Cross played 222 games, with a career average of .316 and a high of .396 in his senior season. He had 41 career home runs with 12 in his senior season, and had 170 RBI's with his career high of 53 coming in his junior season.
In 25 games and 71 at-bats for Lake Elsinore, Cross batted .197, had 14 hits, including 2 doubles and 1 homerun, batting in 8 runs. Cross showed a fantastic eye, getting walked 22 times and getting hit by a pitch 6 times. Cross is joining a Fort Wayne TinCaps team that is 5th in the Midwest League with a 29-40 record. They are a double-digit lead out of first place and most likely won't wake the Midwest League playoffs.
The TinCaps do feature some notable Padres prospects like shortstop Rosman Verdugo, outfielder Kavares Tears, and infielder Jonathan Vastine. Along with Cross being pulled up, 6 more players from the Lake Elsinore Storm will be making the jump to Fort Wayne. Right-handed pitchers Bryan Balzer, Nick Falter, Winyer Chourio, and Will Koger will all be moving up, along with outfielder Ryan Wideman and infielder Luke Cantwell.
