Jerrod Calhoun continues to work on his promise of bringing local talent back to the Cincinnati Bearcats after offering 5-star prospect Kameron Mercer from Princeton High School. Mercer is 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, the No. 1-ranked shooting guard in the country, the No.1-ranked player in the state of Ohio, and the No. 11-ranked player in the 2028 high school class (overall rating of 0.9961).
Wes Miller and the old UC Staff offered Mercer all the way back on January 8th, 2024. Mercer and Princeton High School played in the OHSAA Division 1 Basketball Championship this past season against Hilliard Bradley and won convincingly, with a final score of 59-28. Mercer has also won the EYBL Peach Jam, a tournament sponsored by Nike Basketball featuring the best high school AAU basketball teams in the country.
It was originally reported by Keegan Nickoson of Bearcat Journal that Mercer was planning on visiting Cincinnati, and Coach Calhoun now that he was named head coach also noting him, saying, "I think they made a really good hire. He runs an NBA-style offense." Being one of the premier prospects in the country with NBA aspirations, Mercer has also spent time as a part of the USA Men's Basketball Junior National Team.
Mercer has an older brother who also attends Princeton High School; instead, he plays football. Jaylen Mercer is a 3-star, 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end who is ranked No. 18 in the State of Ohio and No. 49 at his position nationally. Mercer holds offers from Cincinnati and has already visited.
