The Cincinnati Bearcats' upcoming basketball season under first-year head coach Jerrod Calhoun can't get here any sooner, as fans are becoming increasingly optimistic and impatient about the season's start on November 2nd against American University.
The Bearcats recently played in the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League, playing two games against Victoria and Calgary. The Bearcats beat Victoria by a final score of 110-63; MJ Collins led the way with 15 points. They beat Calgary 107-66; Myles Colvin hit 7 three-pointers, scoring 24 points in just 19 minutes.
A Cincinnati fan account on X (Twitter) that goes by "Terry Nelson Burner" had a very optimistic take about the Bearcats going into their first season with Calhoun saying, "Coaches change. Players change. Eras change. But the standard of Cincinnati basketball NEVER does. The sleeping giant is awake. Jerrod Calhoun's first year in Cincy is about to be something special. Cincinnati basketball is BACK. And the rest of the country is about to find out."
Cincinnati fans have been dying for the Bearcats to get back to national relevance ever since Mick Cronin left for UCLA in 2019. They have endured John Brannen, Wes Miller, and now turn to a Bob Huggins disciple to get the Bearcats back to where they want to be. CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reiterated this point back in July, saying that Bearcat fans are worried more about wins on social media than on the court.
With the addition of a 76-team field for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the Bearcats are tournament-or-bust this upcoming season.
