The San Francisco 49ers signed former Bearcats tight end Josiah Deguara (2016-2019), joining his fourth NFL team since being drafted by the Green Bay Packers No. 94 in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Deguara came on the scene as an NFL tight end prospect in 2018 as a junior at Cincinnati, where he caught 38 passes for 468 yards and 5 touchdowns. In his senior season, Deguara caught 39 passes for 504 yards and 7 touchdowns, and was the third tight end selected in the 2020 NFL Draft behind Cole Kmet and Devin Asiasi.
After being drafted by Green Bay in 2020, Deguara spent his first four seasons in Wisconsin, with his best season coming in 2021, when he caught 23 passes for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns. After playing in Green Bay, Deguara went to Jacksonville in 2024, where he was used primarily as a blocker, appearing in 15 games but only catching 3 passes. His role was a lot of the same last season when he was a part of the Arizona Cardinals. Deguara appeared in 12 games, but only caught 3 passes as well. With Deguara staying in the NFC West and joining the 49ers, it is speculated that Deguara will be used as a blocker in wide and jumbo sets, with the 49ers already being set with tight ends on their roster like George Kittle, Luke Farrell, Hayden Rucci, Jake Tonges, and Brayden Willis. Deguara's role will seem more prominent when the 49ers make their preseason debut on August 13th against the Tennessee Titans.
