The Cincinnati Bearcats and Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun continue to add to their backcourt, this time signing Georgia Tech combo guard Akai Fleming. Last season as a true freshman, Fleming averaged 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists on shooting splits of 37.3% from the field, 32.9% from three-point range, and 81.6% from the free throw line. He appeared in 30 games last season for the Yellow Jackets, starting in 22 of them, playing 25.5 minutes per game. Georgia Tech went 11-20 last season with a record of 2-16 in the ACC last season. Fleming was the lone bright spot at Georgia Tech. His best game last season came on the road against California. Fleming scored 19 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, had 2 assists, 1 steal, and one block. The Yellow Jackets would lose 85-80, but Fleming shot a decent 8-17 from the field, going 3 of 6 from three-point range.
Fleming's highlight tape is quite impressive. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from Marietta, Georgia, plays like a guard would closer to 6-foot around the perimeter, but when he's inside the paint, his athleticism takes over. Going into his sophomore year, only weighing 185 pounds leaves room to wonder: If Fleming can put on some muscle and take a step, how impactful can he become?
Flemings was a former 4-star recruit, the No.101 player nationally, the No.17 shooting guard, and the No. 10 player from Georgia. As a transfer, Flemings is ranked as the No. 152 player in the transfer portal, and the 29th shooting guard.
