The Cincinnati Bearcats lost a lot of players from last year's team due to graduation, the transfer portal, and the NFL, but luckily, they brought in 22 players from the transfer portal to fill the gaps. The Cincinnati Bearcats are going to need some of these players to step up and play well if they want to compete in the Big 12 this season. Here are the best transfer candidates to make a much-needed impact.
Larenzo Fenner (WR, South Dakota)
Larenzo Fenner will be entering his Junior season at Cincinnati after spending last season at South Dakota. Last year, he caught 44 passes for 1,002 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 22.8 yards per catch. His best game last season came against the Southern Illinois Salukis in a 53-51 5-overtime win. Fenner caught 6 passes for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a long catch for a 39-yard touchdown.
MJ Cannon (CB, Bowling Green)
The Cincinnati Bearcats' defensive back room lost Matthew McDoom, who was a very productive transfer for the Bearcats last season. The addition of MJ Cannon was a big one for the Bearcats; the cornerback from Bowling Green had 57 total tackles, 27 of them being solo. He had 1 pass deflection, 2 interceptions, and 2 sacks for the Falcons last season, being rarely targeted and earning a Third-team All-MAC selection. If the Falcons had been better as a team, Canon would've likely made first team. The 6-foot-3 corner has the size to matchup with Power 4 receivers; hopefully his skillset transfers over well into the Big 12 as too.
Cole Tabb (RB, Stanford) & Zylan Perry (RB, Louisiana) & Gi'Bran Payne (RB, Notre Dame)
The Cincinnati Bearcats' running back room last season was a big strength of their offense; they had the power and short-yardage back in Tawee Walker, who graduated, and Evan Pryor, the elusive back who wants to cut it outside, who transferred to Florida. With those two gone, the Bearcats added three running backs out of the transfer portal. Zylan Perry, a running back from Louisiana; Cole Tabb, a running back from Stanford; and Gi'Bran Payne, a running back from Notre Dame who attended LaSalle High School in Cincinnati. The Bearcats still have Zion Johnson on the roster from last year, and 1 of the 3 if not 2 of the transfers should be sharing snaps with Johnson early in the season. If the Bearcats can have at least two reliable running backs, their offense will look a whole lot better.
