Déjà vu. This time last year, the UC Equipment Office was pulling the tarp off some brand new shiny red helmets for the Belk Bowl. Yet again, we’re getting some brand new shiny red helmets for the Belk Bowl. Just like last year, the team at Hyrdrographics, the biggest helmet printing facility in the world, tackled the task of outfitting the Bearcats. This year, they’ve left the carbon fiber checkerboard behind in favor of a cleaner, red HydroChrome look. Seasonally, these are very fitting, because they look like something hanging on my Christmas tree at home.

I kid. These are really sharp, and I’m a big fan of the cleaner look.

Another great aspect of having these helmets is their fundraising element. After the game, fans who make a donation will be able to take home one of these very helmets, just like last year. Proceeds will benefit all 18 varsity sports, which is fantastic.

I know there are some people out there who are huge fans of the “cat scratches”.  They’ll notice that the six prominent scratch graphics from last year are gone. Fear not, because those pesky little design elements made their way into the helmet yet again. Check out the center stripe:

For the first time in a year, the Bearcats will be rocking red lids. Once again, they’ll be 9-3 and aiming to knock off a 6-6 team from the state of North Carolina in the Belk Bowl. Déjà vu.

I’m excited to see how these look during live game action. I’m even more excited to see how they look while celebrating a win over the North Carolina Tar Heels.
