UC’s Mick Cronin Will Not Coach Bearcats In Wagner Game

Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Mick Cronin will not coach the team in their home game against the Wagner Seahawks tonight, per Tommy G.

Cronin was held out UC’s game with the VCU Rams on Saturday afternoon due to an unruptured aneurysm in his brain. The Bearcats of course were blasted by the Fightin’ Shaka Smarts 68-47.

It’s unclear at this point of Mick’s status. He’s continuing to undergo testing as doctors attempt to hone in on the location of the aneurysm and fix the issue. One thing’s certain, basketball should be furthest from his mind right now. This is an extremely serious matter and the best remedy for Mick is to spend time with his family and stay as far away from the team as possible, no matter the frustration that might cause him.

For the Bearcats, they’ll again be led by associate head coach Larry Davis tonight. He will hopefully have a better go of things against Wagner than VCU, where Smart’s havoc offense obliterated poor defensive schemes and execution from Cincinnati. Davis was clearly out-coached on Saturday and the talent disparity between the Bearcats and Seahawks should take the pressure off the interim head coach. That’s the hope, anyways.

Cincinnati and Wagner will tip off at 7 pm on ESPN3.
