Ebuka Izundu Picks The Miami Hurricanes Over Cincinnati
By Chris Bains
Highly sought after 4-star center Ebuka Izundu has picked the Miami (FL) Hurricanes over the Cincinnati Bearcats. Basically everybody with access to a Twitter account is reporting it.
As early as yesterday Izundu had UC in his top three along with Arkansas and Da-U. He had taken visits to those schools over the last month, to get a feel for the campuses and whatnot, in addition to Tennessee and Texas Tech. But the talented big man dropped the Vols and Red Raiders from his list.
Even early this morning Izundu had the Bearcats on his list, so the hope was there. But when he trimmed it to two just hours before his announcement, and UC wasn’t on it, well… on to the next one.

The advantage of Izundu playing for Cincinnati was simple; early playing time on a routinely NCAA Tournament-bound team. He probably wouldn’t have played more than 5 or 10 minutes per game with seniors Octavius Ellis and Coreontae DeBerry occupying the low post. But after he got his feet wet in UC’s system Izundu was staring at a starting role for the following three years.
But the Miami Hurricanes could offer him the same except against better competition in the ACC and in a location that most people pay to visit.
So the million dollar question is, where does Mick Cronin and his staff go from here? Maybe another transfer such as UNC-Asheville’s Andrew Rowsey? He doesn’t play a position where there’s a huge need in the short-term for the Bearcats but he can score from anywhere on the court. Lord knows Cincinnati needs more players like that.
Izundu was a pretty big swing and a miss for UC but if there’s anything we’ve learned about this team in the Cronin era it’s that there will always be another player to fill his shoes.
