Cincinnati Bearcats Land NC State Power Forward Kyle Washington
By Chris Bains
The Cincinnati Bearcats have landed NC State power forward Kyle Washington, who picked UC over Marquette and Providence. Jon Rothstein is again reporting this exceptional news.
I had some concern that Washington left Clifton after visiting UC’s campus on June 10th without committing to the Bearcats. Sometimes it indicates that the recruit isn’t completely impressed with what the school and program has to offer, in that he isn’t sold on going there yet. But that wasn’t the case with Washington, who it seems was simply performing his due diligence to ensure his next and probably final landing spot would be the perfect fit for him.
And it looks like Cincinnati is that school.
The Bearcats are certainly desperate for Washington’s services. UC loses Octavius Ellis and Coreontae DeBerry after this season, both players who were versatile enough to play both the four and five. Adding Washington ensures Cincinnati can maintain that dynamic play down low after Ellis and DeBerry graduate.
Kyle Washington will take a redshirt in the upcoming season, as NCAA transfer rules require him to sit out the year. But when he becomes eligible he’ll have two seasons remaining and he could certainly see a large chunk of minutes in both. The macro impact of Washington casting his lot with the Bearcats is that Cincinnati’s front court is solidified from 2016 onward with Nysier Brooks also committing to UC last night. Stability and consistency are the foundation of success and Mick Cronin’s certainly accomplished that over the last 24 hours.
