Sean Kilpatrick Scores His Old Number Against The Bulls

Sean Kilpatrick, recently signed by the New Orleans Pelicans in this past offseason, appears to be finally given a real shot at a NBA roster. He dabbled on the 76ers, Warriors, and Timberwolves coming out of college but neither of them gave him a serious look outside of a filler in Minnesota for ten days.

New Orleans was a different story. Kilpatrick was shooting lights out during the Summer League, again for the T-Wolves, when the Pelicans called up his agent and gave him a two year contract. The former UC star isn’t disappointing his new team.

Kilpatrick’s preseason started off slowly, as he scored just eight points on 3-12 shooting in 16 minutes of playing time against the Indiana Pacers in game one. His playing time was dialed back in game two against the Atlanta Hawks but he still scored six points during those six minutes.

It was game three last night against the Chicago Bulls when Kilpatrick really got going.

Ol’ #23 didn’t start for the Pelicans but instead came in off the bench to drop a 23 spot on the Bulls. Kilpatrick was awarded 20 full minutes of playing time, his most of the preseason and shot 58% from the field, including 3-7 from beyond the arc. As usual, he was perfect from the free throw stripe as well.

That’s the same type of explosiveness Kilpatrick displayed in his limited time for the Minnesota Timberwolves, notching 13 points against the Utah Jazz in a game. But, again, it unfortunately didn’t translate into any long term interest from that organization. Perhaps Kilpatrick’s performance last night will earn him more playing time from the New Orleans’ coaching staff going forward and, long term should he keep his production up, a multi-year contract extension.

Who knows? But for now we can just keep our fingers crossed the Pelicans realize Kilpatrick’s offensive potential and get him on the court more.
