The Cincinnati Bearcats football team got some great news yesterday evening. Tight end Jake Golic was granted a sixth year of eligibility. The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Tom Groeschen was the first to reveal the news.

Golic transferred from Notre Dame after spring practice of last year’s offseason. He played for three seasons for the Irish but battled injuries his sophomore and junior years. It greatly inhibited not only his playing time but also his development. So when Golic earned his undergraduate degree after his junior year, he sought a fresh start at Cincinnati. Due to the NCAA graduate transfer rules, he was potentially able to see the field in his first season at UC. But tragedy struck again. Golic experienced a season ending back injury. Luckily it wasn’t career ending.

Due to the miracles of modern science, Golic underwent a stem cell surgery the details of which I couldn’t even begin to explain. So he was physically capable to play football once again and thanks to the NCAA was granted a medical redshirt for last season as well as a sixth year of eligibility. Hopefully Golic’s talent, leadership, and experience bring a wealth of benefits to the team this year.

And fingers crossed it’ll inspire his dad to continue representing the C on his show:
