For the second year in a row the Cincinnati Bearcats put up a big ol’ goose egg on NFL Draft weekend. This is certainly a disappointing trend but not necessarily concerning when it comes to the health of the football program.

UC was blanked this weekend and watched teams like UConn and South Florida, each with two players drafted, and even D2 Towson see one of their own called up by a NFL team. But when you compare the state of the Huskies, Bulls, and the Tigers football programs to the Bearcats, the average, hopefully logical person would take Cincinnati’s every day and twice on Sunday. Unless you’re still one of those delusional UConn fans who still thinks an ACC invitation is stuck at the post office.
Coming into this weekend I was hopeful but not necessarily expecting UC’s top candidates Jeff Luc and Eric Lefeld to be selected. They had several things working for them, Luc with his size and strength, Lefeld with his experience, but had glaring flaws that allowed NFL scouts to pick them apart. But hopefully this motivates these former Bearcats to make a roster this fall and prove their doubters wrong.
So I with the best to Luc and Lefeld, as well as the several other UC players who signed as free agents following the conclusion of the NFL Draft.
- Jeff Luc – Miami Dolphins
- Brad Harrah – New York Giants
- Eric Lefeld – Atlanta Falcons
- Tyreek Burwell – San Diego Chargers
- Terrell Hartsfield – Indianapolis Colts
- Camaron Beard – Cincinnati Bengals
- Jerrell Jordan – Cincinnati Bengals
