Cincinnati Football: Ranking Every Game From UC’s 2015 Season
By Chris Bains
Similar to the Hawaii Bowl, most of us were just relieved Cincinnati got out of it with most of their team in one piece.
But this game wasn’t without frustrating moments, the biggest in my mind the fact that while UC led 10-0 after the first quarter and 17-10 at halftime, they had a chance to be up by so much more. Cincinnati’s first field goal was the result of a drive that stalled in BYU’s redzone when, surprise surprise, Eddie Gran couldn’t dig up a play to get them over the goal line. Then Andrew Gantz shanked a field goal two drives later. What should have been a 17 point lead in a tough road environment was just a touchdown at halftime.
Then the second half began and everything started to go haywire. UC’s secondary was letting wide receivers run 20-30 yards open downfield, Steve Clinkscale refused to blitz a hobbled Tanner Mangum, and all the while the goody two shoe Morman players were taunting the Bearcats every chance they got. On top of that, Tommy Tuberville threw in the towel with about four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, signalling to his team, who he’s supposed to inspire and lead, that he had given up.
It was just a mentally exhausting Friday night game and I was happy UC won’t have to go to Provo again any time soon.
Next: A win and a loss
