Cincinnati Football: Kion Wright would be a perfect fit on Luke Fickell’s defensive line
By Charles Post
Kion Wright is a 2023 3-star edge rusher from Philadelphia that would fit perfectly in Luke Fickell’s system because he’s a physical tackler with great reaction time and upper body strength. The Bearcats have built a consistent defensive front that thrives on energy, intensity and speed, and Wright excels in all three areas and more.
Cincinnati extended an offer to him in January and the Cheltenham High School prospect visited the athletic facilities on April 14. Bowling Green, Duke, Syracuse, and UConn also offered that same weekend. A year before, Penn State got in the mix and is certainly considered a desirable destination.

Wright described his recent visit to Cincinnati: “Great! My visit was everything I thought it would be. I could see myself fitting in their system and I am very familiar with them. I am a fan of what they’ve been doing. It felt good to get an offer from there because I was always a fan of what they were doing and their culture.”
He also explained that a commitment is coming within the next couple months: “I am trying to schedule the rest of my visits now, more specifically official visits. I want to make a decision around June/summertime.” Keep an eye on his recruitment as the Bearcats hope to add to the 2023 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 13th per 247 Sports.
“Cincinnati is up there with my favorites,” Wright told me.
According to On3 Recruiting, the favorites to land Wright are Penn State (71.1%) and West Virginia (16.7%) but other programs like Cincinnati, Maryland, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Temple, Virginia Tech and Syracuse are options too. The 6’2 defensive end has picked up a total of 18 scholarship offers to this point.
Wright is the 57th ranked edge rusher in the nation and has a confident mentality to match his powerful play style: “First and foremost I’m a technician. I am very physical and aggressive. I feel as though I am unblockable!”
The Bearcats should continue to push for Wright as he nears a decision date.
