Abby Holtman announced her commitment to the Bearcats women’s basketball program in late May and is expected to join the team in 2023. During her junior season at Ryle High School in Kentucky, Holtman averaged a team-high 15.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game en route to earning All-State honors per the Louisville-Courier Journal.

“I built a great relationship with head coach Clark-Heard. Their whole team is like a family and I just thought that could be a place I could thrive in college,” Holtman told BVM Sports. “They’re only 25 minutes away from home so that was a big thing because I want to be around my family and around for my little sister.”

The Kentucky native also had offers from Akron, Eastern Kentucky, Memphis, Murray State and more but felt like the Bearcats were a perfect fit. Cincinnati is hoping to consistently compete for conference championships in the near future and Holtman could be a driving force behind that in a couple years.

“I know when I talk to coaches they’re really excited about her. She has a desire to be about the team, what the team needs and how she can improve herself to help,” Ryle head coach Katie Haitz explained to BVM Sports. “She’s been put in a lot of different places on the floor and that only makes her a better player as she gets older.”

Holtman should be able to make an impact at the next level because of her ability to shoot from beyond the arc and play both backcourt positions. In addition to leading the Lady Raiders in scoring and made 3-pointers, she shot 42.4% from the field and 79.6% from the free throw line last season.
