After nearly coming back from a double digit deficit, the Cincinnati Bearcats eventually came up short during a 28-26 loss to the rival UCF Knights today.

Cincinnati had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes but a potential two-point conversion fell incomplete and UCF was able to run out the clock.

On the final drive of the game, Bearcats quarterback Emory Jones found wide receiver Braden Smith for a crucial first down en route to scoring a touchdown.

Scott Satterfield’s team has lost seven consecutive games and remains winless in conference play with less than a month remaining in the regular season.

Bearcats senior running back Ryan Montgomery racked up a season-best 113 rushing yards and a touchdown on eight carries in his return from injury.

Despite coming up short again, Cincinnati continued to find success on the ground but it wasn’t enough to overcome several costly penalties and turnovers.

Jones was replaced by back up quarterback Brady Lichtenberg in the first quarter but returned before halftime and went onto finish the rest of the game.

The Bearcats held an advantage in first downs, total yards and time of possession but a couple of critical turnovers in the first half were too much to conquer.

Cincinnati Football: Scott Satterfield details recent loss against UCF in press conference

Cincinnati is set to return to action at former AAC foe Houston Cougars next weekend with an opportunity to put an end to the seven-game losing streak.

In the postgame press conference on Saturday night, Satterfield detailed the disappointing loss to UCF and the penalty concerns per Cincinnati Athletics.

"“It points to a very undisciplined football team, which pisses me off. We’ve been that way and that’s all on me. We’re going to fix it. We have three weeks and then an offseason but we’re doing everything we can to fix it. You can’t win games being that undisciplined. It’s turnovers and penalties. We also had a player kicked out tonight. Those type of things are not who we want to be and it’s embarrassing that we do those things. We have to fix it and we’re going to continue to work hard to. Whoever wants to show up in that locker room tomorrow, we’re going to continue to work on that, and that’s what I just told them in the locker room. It’s just unacceptable. I feel like a broken record coming in here. We’re out-gaining teams by over 100 yards, yet we’re on the short end of the stick, and it comes down to six or eight plays that are the difference in the game. We did some great things tonight and that gets overshadowed by some undisciplined plays.”"
