It was announced on August 8th that Cincinnati Bearcats safety Ty Goodwill will miss the entire 2026 season due to an Achilles injury. Goodwill came from South Alabama, where he posted 34 total tackles, 18 of them solo. He added pass deflections and 1 interception in 11 games last season for the Jaguars.
As a transfer, Goodwill had a rating of .8600, in the top 5 of incoming Cincinnati transfers. He was ranked the No. 91 safety in the transfer portal and the No. 964 player overall. Goodwill was expected to be a starting safety for the Bearcats, a big blow for a defense that looked to improve a lot from last season.
The Bearcats' transfer class was very secondary-heavy, thankfully. Along with Goodwill transferring in, Cincinnati also added Jacob Finley from Northern Illinois, MJ Cannon from Bowling Green, Jasper Beeler from Northern Illinois, KK Meier from UTSA, and Kenny Worthy from Washington State. Antwan Peek Jr. made the switch from safety to linebacker this offseason under new defensive coordinator Nate Woody, but could make the switch back if the need is dire at some point.
Head Coach Scott Satterfield noted that underclassmen CJ Crite, CJ Jones, and UTSA transfer KK Meier will be among players who will see more opportunity with Goodwill's unfortunate injury. With the free safety position being open, all three are likely to get a tryout for the job. Bearcat Journal's Keegan Nickson noted that Crite is a really intriguing prospect for the replacement, with his highlight tape doing all the talking.
