With the second day of the Monster Energy Big 12 Media Days kicking off, the Bearcats were one of 8 Big 12 teams under the microscope Wednesday afternoon. In Bearcats' head coach Scott Satterfield's opening statement during the coaches' solo press conference period, he expressed his excitement for Cincinnati's new defensive coordinator, Nate Woody.

"Coach Woody and I were together at Appalachian State for five seasons, he did an outstanding job there and had a great run at Army the last 6 years. Excited about what he'll be able to bring to our defense," said Coach Satterfield.

Satterfield and Woody were together at Appalachian State from 2013-2017, with their best seasons coming in 2015-17. The duo went 30-9 in those 3 seasons, winning 3 bowl games, all to teams from the Mid-American Conference. After 2017, Woody took a defensive coordinator job at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the two coaches went their separate ways. Satterfield took the job at Louisville after the 2018 season when the Mountaineers went 11-2, winning a fourth straight bowl game. Woody took a job as a defensive analyst for Michigan in 2019 and served as the defensive coordinator for the United States Military Academy from 2020-2025.

When Woody was hired by Satterfield and Cincinnati back in January, he was praised highly then too, with Satterfield saying, " He is one of the best defensive coordinators in the country. I've seen firsthand the impact he has on the players and defenses. He's an outstanding teacher, an exceptional leader and someone who knows how to build championship-caliber defenses."

The biggest change that Woody has made to the Bearcats' defense thus far is changing the position of the once-strong safety Antwan Peek Jr. to linebacker, trying to get one of the Big 12's best defenders closer to the ball.
