Cincinnati Bearcats land commitment from 5-star Kam Mercer from Princeton High School

Kam Mercer, who the Cincinnati Bearcats justed hosted for a visit earlier this month, has announced his commitment to the Jerrod Calhoun and the Cincinnati Bearcats live on Sportscenter at 2:00 p.m eastern time on May 21st. Mercer was originally a part of the class of 2028, meaning he would be going into his junior season next school year, but he reclassed to the Class of 2027, meaning that in August of 2027, instead of going into his Senior season at Princeton High School, he will be attending Cincinnati a year early.

Mercer stands at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, and was the No. 1-ranked player in Ohio, the No. 1-ranked shooting guard, and the No. 11 player in the country for the class of 2028. It is unknown how his rating will be adjusted with his reclass to 2027, but it shouldn't change much.

Mercer was reoffered on May 5th, after originally receiving an offer from Wes Miller back in January of 2024. Mercer then visited Cincinnati shortly after getting reoffered. He was crystal balled and gave hints that Cincinnati was the place he wanted to be, but also took visits to Xavier and Ohio State in his time since committing to the Bearcats. Calhoun made a promise to bring in high-level local talent and cashed in just two months as head coach since being hired on March 24th.

Many are saying that Mercer reminds them of former Bearcat, Jarron Cumberland, which, if Mercer turns into half the player Cumberland was, it will work out.
