Lakota West High School guard Joshua Tyson named his top 6 schools with the Cincinnati Bearcats being one of the teams listed. The Bearcats were named alongside local schools Xavier and Ohio State with Michigan State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech rounding out the rest. Tyson turned down offers from Penn State, Arizona State, West Virginia, and Dayton.
Tyson held an offer from Wes Miller and staff before his firing and was offered again by Calhoun when he was on campus for a visit in mid-May.
Standing at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Tyson has all the tools to be an efficient and impactful guard at the power four level. He is ranked as the No. 55 recruit in the class of 2027, the No. 10 combo guard in the country, and the No. 5 player in the state of Ohio. This past season at Lakota West Tyson averaged 16.3 points per game, shooting 34% from three-point range. Lakota West made it all the way to the regional final against Pickerington Central before losing 55-35.
The Bearcats haven't just been involved with Tyson in the local recruiting market, they have Princeton High School commit Kam Mercer who reclassified from 2028 to 2027 and Isaiah Mack-Russell from Winton Woods High School. Jerrod Calhoun has made it known from day one that he wants local prospects to stay in Cincinnati, and with Mercer and Tyson being reportedly very good friends, it could be possible. Tyson has made it known that he prioritizes fit in a program rather than proximity to home, but Cincinnati could have both.
