The Cincinnati Bearcats added the Green Bay Phoenix to their out-of-conference schedule for the upcoming season. The game is likely to take place on November 5th at Fifth Third Arena. Green Bay is led by head coach Doug Gottlieb, who has been in the role for 2 seasons and enters his third this upcoming year. Gottlieb was a fantastic college basketball player, playing for Notre Dame and Oklahoma State in his career, leading the country in assists twice.
In two full seasons as the Green Bay head coach, Gottlieb has an overall record of 22-43, going 18-15 last season, with a 12-8 record in the Horizon League last season. In his first season, Green Bay went 4-28, with a 2-18 record in the Horizon League. Green Bay had a losing streak of 21-straight games from Nov. 22nd to Feb. 16th. Gottlieb turned the Phoenix around in just one season and is looking to compete for a Horizon League title once again this season.
Green Bay is returning five players from last season's roster, including Marcus Hall, who averaged 13.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season. Green Bay is bringing in 10 new players, 8 from the transfer portal and 2 from high school. Christian Burnett is coming from Gordon St. College, where he averaged 18.1 points and 5.4 assists. Stewart Erhart is coming from D2 Fort Lewis, where he averaged 17.2 points per game and 3.3 assists per game. Ne'Quan Brown is transferring from North Idaho College where he averaged 15.0 points and and 6.8 rebounds.
