The Cincinnati Bearcats and Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun have extended a full scholarship offer to Lakota West High School 4-star guard Josh Tyson. Tyson is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound rising senior, a part of the class of 2027. This past season, Tyson averaged 16.3 points per game, shooting 34% from three-point range. He also led Lakota West to the regional final against Pickerington Central, which they lost 55-35. Tyson was born in Virginia, then moved to Arkansas and, later, to Cincinnati, now in West Chester.

Tyson recently visited the Bearcats, and Keegan Nickson of Bearcat Journal got an inside scoop, saying that Cincinnati assistant coach Max Bent was the first to reach out to Tyson, just a day after Calhoun was hired, all the way back on March 24th. Nickson also made it known that West Virginia, Xavier, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Iowa, Michigan State, Clemson, and Oregon State are also involved in the recruitment of Tyson.

Tyson mentioned during his interview with Bearcat Journal that he and Kam Mercer have known each other since fourth grade, both playing on the same AAU travel team. Mercer was recently offered by Cincinnati. The 5-star is in the class of 2028 and goes to Princeton High School. Tyson had this to say about Calhoun's recruiting of local talent: "I think targeting guys from Cincinnati is getting back to the culture. The University of Cincinnati definitely should target guys from Cincinnati."

Tyson plans on making his decision sometime in August 2026, but prioritizes overall fit in a program over staying close to home. In the meantime, Tyson plans to visit more schools that have an interest in him.
