With the Monster Energy Big 12 Media Day taking place on Wednesday for the Cincinnati Bearcats and seven other members of the Big 12, head coach Scott Satterfield took questions from the Media during the head coach's solo press conference period. One of the topics of focus was the matchup against the Miami Redhawks this season, more specifically in the years to come and the importance of regional rivalries between differing college football foes.
The Bearcats and Redhawks have faced off in the 'Battle for the Victory Bell' 121 times, dating back to 1888, with the Bearcats leading the series 61-60-7. The Bearcats renew the rivalry with the Redhawks this season after not playing Miami last season for the first time in decades. The Bearcats previously won in 2024, 27-16, but the Redhawks pulled off the upset in 2023, winning 31-24 in overtime. That was Miami head coach Chuck Martin's only win against the Bearcats, having a 1-8 record since 2014.
"I certainly believe that in college football you want to have rivalries, you want to be able to play some of the teams that you've been playing for years, and regional rivalries, I think, are important for the fan bases for sure." The Bearcats quickly addressed their mistake when scheduling Bowling Green instead of Miami last season. Fans publicly expressed their disapproval of the decision and Cincinnati listened.
"This year we are playing in our soccer stadium in Cincinnati, which will be a very unique venue, it will be an intimate, loud, great environment, and I think we'll all notice that when we play that game. The Bearcats take on the Redhawks at TQL Stadium in the Over-the-Rhine district of downtown Cincinnati. The game takes place on September 19th at 3:30 and will be streamed on ESPN+.
