The Indianapolis Colts are no strangers to the Cincinnati Bearcats. They have two on their roster, Sauce Gardner and Alec Pierce, who both played together on the 2021 team that made the College Football Playoff and were the first two Bearcats selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. 9 Bearcats were drafted that year, the G5 record for players drafted in a single draft.

Jake Arthur, a Colts beat writer, posted on Colts Roundtable, saying that the Colts organization has always been a popular destination for former Cincinnati Bearcats. He noted that last season, the Colts star running back Johnathon Taylor led the league in carries with 323. Which is 86.6% of the Colts' running back carries. While there is a huge advantage to having a player like Taylor on the field that often, Head Coach Shane Steichen has made it known that they are not going to be overworking him as much this upcoming season.

The Colts do have two running backs on their current roster who could make some noise, Seth McGowan and DJ Giddens. Still, Arthur speculates that the Colts should make a push to trade for Jerome Ford, who is currently with the Washington Commanders after spending 2022-2025 with the Cleveland Browns. Ford's most productive season came in 2023. He rushed for 813 yards and 4 touchdowns, while adding 319 yards receiving and 5 more touchdowns through the air. Ford has shown that he is capable of producing in the right offensive system, and Washington could be the second chance he needs.
