Former Cincinnati Bearcats wide receiver Cyrus Allen was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, No. 176th overall. Since then, he has participated in rookie minicamp and team practices before training camp started for the Chiefs on Wednesday, July 29th. Allen has already been making a name for himself inside the Chiefs organization, with head coach Andy Reid saying: "I think Pat's got some trust there." Allen has been working with the first-team offense recently and is going to be a central part of the Kansas City offense this season.
On the first day of training camp, Allen got a good amount of first-team reps, catching a ton of passes from Patrick Mahomes, who is currently rehabbing an ACL injury from last season, trying to make it back for the start of the NFL season. Chiefs writer for ESPN, Nate Taylor, stated that Allen was the only standout receiver from a position group that has the most disappointing day at training camp.
The Chiefs also picked up Bearcats wide receiver Jeff Caldwell as an undrafted free agent. Caldwell had an exceptional NFL Combine, earning an athleticism score of 99, the highest since Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf. Caldwell is more of a developmental prospect but is likely to make the 53-man roster and could carve out a role for himself as the season goes on.
The Chiefs start the season on September 14th on Monday Night Football, hosting the Denver Broncos. Allen and Caldwell will make their return to Cincinnati on December 13th when they play the Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
