With the Brendan Sorsby eligibility scandal coming to an end, consequences are likely to follow for Cincinnati and/or Texas Tech. Brendan Sorsby's agent, Ron Slavin, made claims via On3 that Cincinnati knew about the gambling addiction and took no action. Slavin was officially quoted on 105.3 The FAN saying, "If anybody should be questioned or catching heat, it should be Cincinnati. Because they knew for two years and never said anything or didn't do anything about it. That's the part of the story that gets lost."
It is unclear if Slavin is claiming that Cincinnati knew about Sorsby's illegal betting or just his gambling addiction in general, trying to paint Sorsby as more of a victim of the system. There have been no consensus evidence to Cincinnati knowing about illegal bets at the moment but their is likely to be some sort of investigation into all of this before the season starts.
If Cincinnati did know about it, likely punishments would be vacating wins from Sorsbys' two seasons at Cincinnati or games past a certain point when they knew about his gambling problems. If they vacated the entire two seasons with Sorsby starting at quarterback, it would be an underwhelming 12 wins total, 5 wins in 2024, and 7 wins in 2025.
Texas Tech could likely face some repercussions as well. Although they did come to their senses and mutually part ways with the quarterback, they took advantage of the system and risked the integrity of the game doing so. The Big 12 discussed possible punishment before the release of Sorsby, which could still be a possibility. The NCAA openly voiced its disagreement with the court's decision to grant Sorsby an injunction and could try to take action against the Red Raiders.
