The Cincinnati Bearcats reach out to a Memphis transfer point guard

The Bearcats have been among the teams that have expressed interest in Memphis point guard Dug McDaniel, who was recently granted another year of eligibility with the Judge Sweeney ruling, along with a lot of other athletes regarding the 5-in-5 rule that the NCAA passed earlier this summer. Last season, McDaniel averaged 13.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. He did shoot 41.3% from the field and 32.9% from the three-point range, which could be concerning, but his did play over 34.4 minutes per game, which he likely wouldn't be doing at Cincinnati.

If McDaniel does decide to go elsewhere, this will be his fourth team in five seasons. He started his career at Michigan, where he spent his freshman and sophomore seasons, and then he went to Kansas State for his junior year. He went to Memphis for his senior year, and now he's here again, looking to play elsewhere. A lot of teams have expressed interest outside of Cincinnati; Arizona State, Stanford, NC State, Iowa State, USC, Utah, and Oregon have all reached out, per Jeff Goodman.

McDaniels' best season came as a sophomore while he was at Michigan. In his second season as a Wolverine, the 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 16.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Michigan missed out on the tournament that season, but that was McDaniel at his peak scoring and efficiency.

It is speculated that the Bearcats' interest in McDaniel could be in preparation for the Tylen Riley injury, wondering why else they would look to add another guard to an already guard-heavy roster.
