The Cincinnati Bearcats are receiving their first unjury new ahead of the 2026-27 college basketball season with Tulsa transfer guard and projected starter Tylen Riley being out at least 4-6 weeks with a hand injury before he is reevaluated, Jerrod Calhoun announced Thursday. Riley is the Bearcats highest rated incoming transfer with a .9300 rating. Riley averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Golden Hurricane last season, shooting 44.8% from the field, and 38.9% from the three-point-range.
The Bearcats were hit with a significant injury in the preseason last year as well. Incoming George Mason transfer Jaylen Haynes who would've played a huge role went down with a lower body injury in mid-October and missed the entire season. Haynes transferred to the University of Dayton for his final year. Riley will be missing the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League which the Bearcats will be participating in from August 1st to 6th.
Riley is likely to have his hand injury reevaluated at the end of August or the beggining of September. The Bearcats first scheduled event this year takes place on October 7th where the Bearcats are participating in the Caresource Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The Bearcats will be taking on Ohio State, while Xavier and Dayton face off in a regional exhibition double header.
Riley should be back by that October 7th exhibition assuming every goes to plan. No one thought that Haynes would miss the entire season last year, but yet he did. Lets hope that Tylen recovers quickly.
