Scott Satterfield hasn't been necessarily loved by fans since he arrived in Cincinnati, but he has improved upon every season he has been here. From a 3-9 record in 2023, 5-7 in 2024, and 7-6 in 2025, what does Satterfield need to do this season to get back on the right of side on the fanbase.
Satterfield is under contract through the end of the 2028 season, which would mean two more seasons after this upcoming one. If Satterfield were to be fired after this upcoming season, his buyout would be $5.53 million, which is a lot of money for a school like Cincinnati.
Nick Niehaus and Hudson Keyne of the Chatterbox Bearcats podcast gave their weigh-in on this type of question. "If you don't see any actual results, 8-9 wins, and at least one win in November, you gotta get rid of him," said Niehaus. It's hard not to agree that if Cincinnati doesn't make some sort of stride this season, then Satterfield should be gone. Is that actually going to happen? He was signed to a 6-year contract for some reason, and does Cincinnati really want to pay a $5.5 million buyout? My best guess is that if the Bearcats struggle this year, he will get a pass for his 2025 season, when Cincinnati was 7-2 at one point, ranked No. 17 in the country. I think it is important for Satterfield's job that he has some late-season success, not having won a game in November since November 9th, 2024, when the Bearcats beat a 4-4 West Virginia 31-24 at home. Satterfield and the Bearcats have lost 6 November games in a row, including all 4 last season.
What do the Bearcats need to accomplish to avoid coaching changes this season?
