From the minute Jerrod Calhoun arrived on campus all the way back on March 25th, he made two large points during his introductory press conference. He first stated that he wants to keep local recruits in Cincinnati. He has signed a 5-star recruit Kam Mercer and is working on two more local recruits, Joshua Tyson and Isaiah Mack-Russell who both attend Cincinnati-area high schools. The second point that Calhoun made was wanting to play teams that are regionally significant to Cincinnati. It was announced today that the Cincinnati Bearcats will be joining the Dayton Flyers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Xavier Musketeers in the Carsource Invitational. Caresource has been sponsoring exhibition games between the four schools at Fifth Third Arena and UD Arena for several years, and now the 4 schools will meet in a doubleheader exhibition event at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, on October 7th.

A lot of fans of the four schools don't see the point in scheduling an exhibition when they can just schedule themselves for the regular season. It's not confirmed, but it's being speculated online that when Calhoun got the job and pushed the idea to Anthony Grant, Richard Pitino, and Jake Diebler, it was too late to make it work with too many contractual obligations from each team. It sounds like a done deal that if this goes well, then this should become a regular season event, although not outside. There are weather precautions put in place; however, if the weather does not permit, the doubleheader of games will be moved 30 miles north to UD Arena, the home of the Flyers, where Cincinnati will be playing on November 14th.
