The Cincinnati Bearcats peaked at 7-1 and were ranked at No. 17 in the country going into their week 10 matchup against the No. 24-ranked Utah Utes on the College Gameday in Salt Lake City. The Bearcats would lose this game 45-14 and would spiral their season to an ugly ending. Cincinnati would lose its final 5 games, including a 35-13 loss in the Liberty Bowl to Navy. The biggest component to Cincinnati's success in their 7-1 start was their high-powered offense last season, which head coach Scott Satterfield wants to get back to.
Cincinnati led the Big 12 in yards per play last season, averaging 6.90 yards per play. Utah, Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas, and BYU were the next teams, all averaging out collectively at 6.20 yards per play. The Bearcats' offensive success isn't just due to Sorsby and his success passing and running with the football, but also through the likes of running backs Evan Pryor and Tawee Walker. Wide receivers Cyrus Allen, Jeff Caldwell, and Caleb Goodie, and tight end Joe Royer.
With eight players commanding a majority of the scrimmage yards last season, and all of them either graduating or transferring, or heading to the NFL, the Bearcats are going to have to get their production from new names next season. Notre Dame transfer running back Gi'Bran Payne is going to be an impact player on offense next season, along with JC French, a quarterback from Georgia State, and Wayne Harris, a wide receiver from Kent State.
The best in the @Big12Conference last year.
